Daman wins the Best Odia Film (released in 2022) award at the 70th National Film Awards. The award comprises a Rajat Kamal and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh. It stars Babushaan Mohanty and Dipanwit Dashmohapatra in the lead roles.

The full form of ‘Daman’ is Durgama Anchalare Malaria Nirakarana (in Odia). It  is the highest grossing Odia film, till date. The film was written and directed by Vishal Mourya and Debiprasad Lenka and released on 4th November 2022. Later, it was dubbed into Hindi and distributed across India.

This movie portrays how a doctor works tirelessly to raise awareness of Malaria disease among tribals in Odisha’s Malkangiri district despite the threat of superstitions. Review

Based on a true story, DAMaN follows the journey of Dr. Siddharth Mohanty (played by Babusan), who has recently completed his MBBS from Bhubaneswar and is assigned to a distant tribal area in the Malkangiri district in Odisha. The film tells the inspiring story of how a young doctor overcomes numerous obstacles to lead an effort to end malaria in the 151 villages in Janbai PHC in the tribal-dominated Malkangiri area.
